Departament History

The chemical engineering department was created to teach the same name career at the same time the College of Engineering
was created in 1966. In 1995 the Food Engineering career was created, and in 2015 the department changes its name to
the Department of Chemical and Food Engineering (DIQyA in spanish).
The departement is in charge of both careers
before mentioned and several courses corresponding to other careers.
The department currently has the following
research groups:
- Research Group in Food Engineering (GIIA)
- Biochemical Engineering Group (GIB)
- Research Group on Food Preservation and Quality (GIPCAL).
- Research Group in Engineering Education (GIEnApI)
Furthermore, many of its professors carry out research activities at the Materials Science and Technology Institute (INTEMA) and the Food Science and Environmental Technology Institute (INCITAA).
< p>It also has the following facilities, where several activities are carried out, such as teaching activities, professio nal practices, production, extension and transfer:- Chemistry Labs.

- Food Production Management Training Unit.
- Chemical Extraction and Distil lation Processes Training Unit
